When disillusioned music teacher JJ meets Belfast troublemakers Naoise and Liam Óg, they form the groundbreaking hip-hop group Kneecap, challenging traditional Irish music and becoming a powerful symbol in the fight to preserve the Irish language. As they rise, they face threats from paramilitaries, police, and politicians while their own antics add to the chaos.
In “Kneecap,” director Rich Peppiatt captures the raw energy of Belfast’s Ceasefire Babies generation, blending dark humor and political rebellion in a Trainspotting-inspired style. Featuring Naoise, Liam, and JJ as themselves, the film boldly celebrates language and identity, making a significant impact on Irish cinema.
